This belief has led us to proudly partner with the Northern Bulls Rugby Club, an initiative that is helping redefine the future of sport in Rodrigues.
Ask someone unfamiliar with rugby what comes to mind, and the answer is often the same: strength, contact, and physicality.
But rugby is far more than what happens during a tackle.
It is a game built on values that shape character: respect, discipline, teamwork, courage, and perseverance.
For Michael Milazar, Commis Sommelier at C Rodrigues and coach of the Northern Bulls, rugby represents exactly that: an opportunity to guide young people towards becoming stronger individuals, both on and off the field.
During the day, Michael is dedicated to creating memorable culinary experiences for guests. As the sun sets over Rodrigues, he takes on another role: mentor, coach, and role model, standing on the pitch with the island’s youngest rugby enthusiasts.
His own rugby journey began at the age of 12, sparked by nothing more than curiosity. That first encounter with the sport eventually grew into a lifelong passion, taking him from player to tactical advisor and now coach, where he shares his knowledge and experience with the next generation.
“Many people see rugby as a violent sport, but they don’t see the values behind it. Rugby teaches respect, discipline, responsibility, and the importance of working together.”
And that is the true heart of the game.
What started as an introduction to rugby among teenagers across Rodrigues’ schools quickly became something much bigger.
A simple initiative to introduce young people to the sport received an incredible response, attracting around 600 children from across the island. From this enthusiasm emerged four rugby clubs, giving children and teenagers a structured environment to train, grow, and develop their passion for the game.
The Northern Bulls became one of the symbols of this growing rugby movement, a club representing determination, unity, and the ambition of young Rodriguans.
For C Rodrigues, supporting the Northern Bulls was not simply about sponsoring a team.
It was about investing in potential.
It was about providing the essential equipment, resources, and support needed for young athletes who are eager to push themselves, improve their skills, and grow within the sport.
More importantly, it was about creating opportunities for young people to discover the values that rugby instils: confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
Sport has the unique ability to bring people together. It teaches young individuals how to trust one another, overcome challenges, celebrate victories, and learn from setbacks. These lessons extend far beyond the rugby field; they become part of who they are.
